Rovers out to protect their lead

National First Division log leaders Blackburn Rovers will be aiming to protect their league when they play the top-of-the-table clash against Thanda Royal Zulu at the Buffalo City Stadium on Sunday.

Rovers have won their last three matches but they may be tested by Neil Tovey’s side that is unbeaten this season and desperate to return to winning ways after playing two goalless draws in a row.

On Friday, Dynamos will want to edge closer to the top of the log by collecting maximum points when they visit Chippa United at the Philippi Stadium, although Professor Ngubane’s side are expected to put up a strong challenge after collecting an away point against African Warriorrs last weekend.

After a poor start, Atlie FC have a chance to win their second match in a row when they travel to the Ackerville Stadium on Saturday to take on Witbank Spurs, who have lost seven of their nine matches this season, while Carara Kicks will entertain FC Cape Town at the Phutaditjhaba Stadium.

FC AK, who have climbed their way to ninth position with three games in hand, can claim their third win of the season when they host the inconsistent Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Eldorado Park on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, African Warriors will be hoping to add to Bay United’s woes when the two sides meet at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Since relocating to Limpopo at the start of the season, United’s only victory this season was a 2-1 win over Carara Kicks back in August.

The last fixture will see the battling Sivutsa Stars taking on the University of Pretoria at Kanyamazane Stadium.

Maximum points will be vital for AmaTuks, especially if Blackburn Rovers win against Thanda Royal Zulu.
