Mozambique edge Malawi

With new interim coach Tom Saintfiet watching from the Civo Stadium VIP Stand, hosts Malawi lost 1-0 to Mozambique in Saturday afternoon's Independence Celebrations match.

Both teams are shaping up for Cosafa Castle Cup quarter finals. And it was the Mambas who looked more serious as they featured a stronger squad while the Flames had only three regulars, including captain of the day Fischer Kondowe.

It was hardly surprising that Josimar Machaisse stunned the hosts with the lone goal on the 38th minute. Malawi President Mrs. Joyce Banda was among the guests watching the match.

Roared on by Kondowe, the Flames reportedly tried to come back into the game but they were led down by poor finishing. Saintfiet has his work cut out in his two-month tenure which begins with the July 13 quarter-final meeting against Zimbabwe in Zambia.
