Silver close in on Malawi title

Big Bullets have a near impossible task of needing to beat Red Lions by a 10-goal margin this Saturday if they are to snatch the Malawi TNM Super League championship from overwhelming favourites Silver Strikers.

Bullets are second on 55 points with a game in hand against the Lions while Silver appear to have done enough to retain their fourth consecutive title after edging Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 on Sunday through Frank Banda's lone strike at Civo Stadium.

The win saw Silver garner 58 points with one game against Mighty Wanderers remaining. A draw or a win would be just enough for Silver.

For Bullets, who thumped Epac FC on Saturday with Gabadinho Mhango netting a brace, they must pray for either a 10-margin beating of the Lions and that Silver should lose to Wanderers.

Down the table, Escom United, Kabwafu United and Bvumbwe Research have been relegated and they will be replaced by three regional premier division champions.

On the individual top scorer’s race:

18 goals Vincent Chinthenga (Bvumbwe Research)

14 goals Rodrick Gonani (Silver Strikers) and Ishmael Thindwa (EPAC F.C)

13 goals Boniface Kaulesi (Red Lions)

12 goals Gabadini Mhango (Big Bullets), Oswald Mkagula (Mafco) and Brown Mizeyi & Sparrow Msowoya (Blantyre United)

8 goals Victor Mpinganjira, Divason Chilemba & Joseph Kamwendo (Mighty Wanderers), Divason Mlozi (Big Bullets), Innocent Bokosi (Blue Eagles), Manasseh Chiyesa (Escom United) and Muhammad Sulumba (Blantyre United)

7 goals Daniel Katunga (two while with Red Lions)(Civo United), Heston Munthali (Big Bullets), Charles Ngosi (Blue Eagles), Mabvuto Chipolopolo (Azam Tigers), Richard Mbulu (Mafco) and Ndaona Daisi (Silver Strikers)

6 goals Harvey Mkacha (Silver Strikers), Gastin Simkonda (Moyale), Mussah Manyenje (EPAC F.C), Dalitso Sailesi (four while with Blantyre United) (Big Bullets) and Moses Nankumba (Azam Tigers)
