Silver Strikers back on top

A 1-1draw with Moyale Barracks and 4-0 thumping of ‘relegated’ Kabwafu United sent holders Silver Strikers back to the TNM Super League summit over the weekend.

Midfielder Ndaziona Daisi put Silver in front on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium only for Gastin Simkonda to level matters for Moyale late in the game.

But the following day, there was no stopping Silver at the same venue where Rodrick Gonani, Peter Pindani and Ndaziona Chatsalira were among the scorers.

The latest win put Silver level on 48 points with deposed leaders Blantyre United who lie second due to an inferior goal aggregate. Silver have played less 23 games against 25 for Blantyre on the 15-member league.

On the third place with 46 points are Big Bullets who tore apart second from bottom Escom United 5-1 at the Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.

Captain and man of the match Fischer Kondowe’s 16th minute stunner put Bullets on the path to the comprehensive win, joined on the scoresheet by James Chilapondwa (19th minute), Diverson Mlozi (51th minute), Gabadinho Mhango (70th minute) and Dalitso Sailesi (86th minute).

Bullets defender Chiku Kanyenda had, on the 78th minute gifted Escom who have 19 points from 23 games, an own goal. Elsewhere, Blue Eagles came from a goal down to beat Mafco 2-1.

In another Saturday match, Civo United wasted a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with fourth-placed Mighty Wanderers at the Kamuzu Stadium.
