Reigning champions Silver Strikers have opened a two point lead atop the TNM Super League standings after week four action last weekend.
Silver thumped rookies Kamuzu Barracks FC 4-1 in Lilongwe with Rodrick Gonani at the double, helped by former FC AK midfielder Chikondi Likwemba and Blessings Tembo.Yusuf Nathali scored Barracks face saver on Sunday.
In Lower Shire venue of Nchalo on Sunday, Red Lions moved to the second place on seven points after defeating Azam Tigers 3-1 with Emmanuel Banda claiming a brace. The Lions are ahead on superior goal aggregate over Mighy Wanderers.
For Wanderers, striker Diverson Chilemba hammered his fourth goal in equal number of matches in as he helped them to a 1-0 beating of Epac FC in Balaka also on Sunday.
Elsewhere, the first hat-trick of the Malawi league came from Vincent Chinthega in his Bvumbwe Research’s 4-2 defeat of Blantyre United in old capital, Zomba.
It was the rookies, Bvumbwe’s first win in three outings but for Blantyre, it was gloom as they are yet to taste a win this season having collected only a point in four assignments.
Probable match of the week in Malawi was at the Kamuzu Stadium, where a day after Malawi dismissed Chad 2-0, Big Bullets handed Civo United a first 3-1 defeat of the season.
Diverson Mlozi, Heston Munthali and Douglas Chirambo were on target for Bullets in front of a packed stadium as Civo’s Welani Nyirenda’s lone strike from the penalty spot proved too little, too late.
