TNM Super League defending champions, Silver Strikers of Lilongwe remained on top of the standings after a third straight win but talk in Malawi is about a resurgent Joseph Kamwendo.
A day after a man-of-the-match display for Malawi’s Flames in 1-1 draw against Nigeria at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, Kamwendo was the following day again the star of the show for his club, Mighty Wanderers.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder was on target as Wanderers lost 1-2 to Silver at the Blantyre giant arena where substitute Tony Chitsulo came off the bench to sneak a double and bag the points for the visitors.
Kamwendo kept the fans on the edge of their seats with elegant passes and dribbling, setting up many scoring passes which Wanderers strikers Diverson Chilemba and Malumbo Gondwe kept on fluffing.
After break, Kamwendo took matters into his own hands, volleying in from long range to send the packed stadium, that kept chanting his name, into jubilation on the 64 th minute.
But the celebration was shortlived as Chitsulo headed in the equalizer two minutes later after some slack Wanderers defending before stabbing in the winner on the 82 minute following a rebound.
Silver now lead on nine points while Wanderers have five points on the 15-member Super League.
In other games, Civo United drew 3-3 with Mafco FC, Big Bullets, led by former Black Leopards striker Grant Lungu, and Blantyre United drew 1-1, rookies Bvumbwe Research held Escom United 0-0 while Kabwafu FC defeated Moyale Barracks 2-1.
