Dyer frustrated by penalty snub

Swansea winger Nathan Dyer admitted he was frustrated by the painful penalty snub that robbed him of a chance to complete a hat-trick in the 5-0 League Cup final demolition of Bradford on Sunday.

Dyer played a key role in Michael Laudrup's team securing the first major silverware in Swansea's history as he opened the scoring with a close-range effort in the 16th minute and then bagged the third goal with a curling finish two minutes after halftime at Wembley.

But when Swansea were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute after Bradford goalkeeper Matt Duke fouled Jonathan de Guzman, the man of the match felt he should have been handed the chance to seal his hat-trick.

De Guzman is Swansea's regular penalty taker and he made it clear he wanted to keep that role, much to Dyer's frustration.

The 25-year-old could be seen angrily complaining about the decision and it took the intervention of captain Ashley Williams and star striker Michu to finally calm him down.

Du Guzman stepped up to score the spot-kick and Dyer, who barely celebrated the goal, was eventually substituted, ending his hopes of a further chance to clinch his treble.

Asked after the final whistle how he felt about the penalty decision, Dyer said: "I wanted the hat-trick at a historic moment like this and I thought I should have got the ball, but it wasn't to be.

"But Swansea have come so far as a club and a city, for us to win is massive. The players have worked so hard."
