Ulinzi edge out Bandari

Kenyan Premier League side Ulinzi Stars managed a 1-0 win over Bandari in their opening match of the season, played on Sunday at Afraha Stadium.

Bandari, who were recently promoted to the first tier league, started the day matching Ulinzi’s prowess for the length of the first-half.

As the teams were coming into the second half, Ulinzi’s head coach Salim Ali ushered in Wycliffe Ochomo, who replaced Ishmael Ibrahim. On his entry into the match, Ochomo’s first touch on the ball resulted in a goal.

At the time, he latched onto a free-kick taken by Chester Okoyo and sent it tactfully past Bandari’s keeper.

After conceding the goal, Bandari, who are currently being coached by Twahir Muhidin as head coach Rishadi Shedu recuperates from knee surgery, notched their tempo one step higher, taking Ulinzi through some tense moments.

On the 80th minute, Ali Bai picked up the ball from the midfield, made a dash into the Ulinzi yard and released a thunderous shot. Ulinzi’s number one man Jacktone Odhiambo had to stretch himself beyond limits to save his defender’s blushes.

The military men held firm for the most part though and ensured that they held onto their advantage to the final whistle.
