Matano wants to retain Super Cup

Tusker FC coach Robert Matano is keen to retain the SuperSport/DStv Super Cup.

The season curtain raiser will be played on Saturday 23 February 2013 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

The Super Cup, which features the Premier League winner against the President’s Cup winner, will, for the second season running, be contested by the Brewers and Gor Mahia.

Last season, Tusker prevailed and it proved to be a good omen as they went on to retain their Premier League title – and Matano says he would like the club to win it again.

“It is an important trophy in the season. In reality it does not matter much but it sets a mark for the season,” he said.

“By winning the Super Cup, it means you start the season well by getting the accolade as well as in terms of morale. And again, it is a football match, we want to win all the matches we play. We will do our best and hope to have it back at the club for another season.”

Matano also gave an insight into his selection for the day.

“It will be a strong side for sure. What I have highlighted above about it’s importance means that I will play the strongest team we have available. Gor Mahia are going to play a strong team as well, so it should be a tough match. We hope for the best,” he added.

The brewers won the trophy last year under the tutelage of Sammy Omollo who is now Sony Sugar head coach.
