Mambo handed coaching role at Dalkurd FF

Former Harambee Stars captain Robert Mambo has been named the head coach at Swedish third tier side Dalkurd FF, effective from Monday.

Mambo, formerly of Bandari FC, Tusker FC and Coast Stars, left the country in 2004 for the European experience and after an illustrious career, his first role as coach was a pre-season friendly match against second tier side IK Bragge on 8 February.

He led the team to a 3-2 win in the friendly match and speaking afterwards to dalademokraten.se he admitted his joy at securing a win in his game as coach – though he added that the players’ performance at times left a lot to be desired.

“It was a good start to my training career, even if the game did not mean much. It is always fun to win, especially against Bragge. It was a good opportunity to try out some new players and I think everyone did well and fought really well. It was not 100 percent in all areas, but we had good positions throughout the match and for long periods it looked really good,” he said.

Mambo may well serve the team as both coach and player as he is still listed as a midfielder there.
