Former Gor coach set for Mahakama

Former Sony Sugar FC, Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno is in talks with Division One Zone A side Mahakama for the coaching role at the club that fell vacant after the expiry of Ezekiel Akwana’s contract.

Otieno had quit football coaching after the end of the season to vie for a political post in Nairobi Kariobangi North, but was not successful in the recently concluded nominations and has therefore decided to return to coaching.

The tactician has confirmed the latest development, saying he is in serious negotiations with the Mahakama management but nothing concrete has been agreed yet.

“We have been in talks but we have not agreed on anything yet. I hope everything will sail on smoothly and we reach an agreement soon,” Otieno said.

“I will make it public once I put pen to paper, which I hope is soon,” he added.

The coach guided Sony Sugar to finishing eleventh in the Tusker Premier League with 38 points last season.

Former Oserian and Tusker coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo has since taken over the team. Mahakama, a former top-tier side, finished fourth in the Division One Zone A league last season.
