Gor edge out Sony in friendly
Gor Mahia beat Sony Sugar 1-0 in a friendly match played at Awendo Green in South Nyanza on Saturday.
The reigning FK Cup and KPL Top 8 champions were the better side throughout the match and were deserved winners in the end.
Moses Odhiambo scored the lone goal for Gor on six minutes. Former Gor goalkeeper Wycliffe Kasaya, in the Sony goal, earned his keep with a string of fine saves, while Odhiambo and Dan Sserunkuma were a constant threat going forward.
As for Sony, they did not create much going forward, which would naturally be of concern to head coach Sammy Omollo.
After the match, the two teams took part in a penalty shoot-out where Gor prevailed 4-1, courtesy of Odhiambo again, Dan Sserunkuma, new signing Paul Kiongera and Kevin Omondi.
Gor head coach Zdravko Logarusic said: “It was a tough match but we dominated and deserved to win. “At the moment, we are working on fitness and squad balance and so far I am happy. The new players also did well so things are going on well.”
Gor are preparing for the inaugural Kenya Power Charity Cup set for next weekend.
