Gateri excited by Kenya recall
South Africa based forward David Gateri has expressed his delight to be in the national team reckoning for Kenya’s friendly against Libya on Wednesday February 6.
The African Soccer Development academy ace, who has represented the Harambee Stars on one previous occasion, has been included in James Nandwa’s 24-man provisional squad for the tie.
Gateri is eager to repay the faith shown in him by Nandwa, and is hopeful he can make the tactician’s final cut for the encounter.
“It feels good of course to be back in the national team; playing for your country at any level is always a source of pride and every footballer’s dream and I am no exception. I have been here before and it is my belief that I bring more experience this time,” said Gateri.
“I can’t wait to don the Kenyan colours again in the friendly match. My appreciation goes to the head coach James Nandwa for giving me this chance and I promise to work hard on it because I do not just want to repay his trust but also to give the whole country and the fans value for their support,” added Gateri.
The friendly match, which was meant to take place in Tripoli, will now be staged in neighbouring Tunisia for security reasons.
