Were relishing Oliech partnership

Tusker FC striker Jesse Were is looking forward to linking up with Auxerre hitman Dennis Oliech in national team colours.

The pair have been included in Harambee Stars coach James Nandwa’s 24-man squad for a friendly match with Libya in February.

Were has been in smashing form for Tusker in pre-season action after completing his move from Mathare United, and is likely to play upfront with Oliech.

“I am happy to be in the Harambee Stars squad. It is a good moment for me,” said Were.

“Even more so to play with all the established names in the squad like Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga. For me though, I would like to play with Dennis Oliech. He has been Kenya’s most consistent striker in the last 10 years and to have him around is fantastic.

“Hopefully, I can get to play with him and learn a thing or two.”

As for settling in at Tusker, Were said: “It has been good going so far. “We have started well and the pre-season has been very good so far. “It is important that we continue that way as the season will be long and tough.

“We hope for the best and if all goes well we can win a number of trophies,” he concluded. Were finished top scorer at the recent Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar with five goals.
