Mathare United sign trio

Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United have signed three players from Division One Zone A outfit Kariobangi Sharks.

Kenya Under-20 midfielder Vincent Odongo, defender Geoffrey Shiveka and Daniel Otieno will all feature for the Slum Boys in the 2013 season.

Confirming the news, the club’s head coach Stanley Okumbi expressed optimism that the youngsters will do well in the top flight.

“I have previously worked with all of them at the junior national team and at Kariobangi Sharks, so I understand their individual abilities really well,” Okumbi said.

“They are talented players and I know they will fit in the team within no time and shine in the top league,” he added.

Mathare have been hit by a recent player exodus, but Okumbi is confident that he will build a formidable unit for the upcoming campaign.

“It is a big blow to lose such key players since this means we have to rebuild the team again,” Okumbi said.

“We cannot stand in a player’s progress so ours is only to wish them well in their new clubs. We have good young players and I believe we will build a good squad before the season kicks off,” he concluded.

Mathare finished eighth in the standings last term.
