Logarusic to give Rodriguez time
Gor Mahia FC head coach Zdravko Logarusic will give trialist Giovanni Rodriguez the benefit of the doubt by assessing the Brazilian over a period of time.
Speaking during the club’s training session at the Nairobi City Stadium on Tuesday, the Croatian who recently returned to Kenya from a holiday in his native country, said the player was physically unfit at this stage.
“Rodriguez has a very solid CV but I’ve watched him in training today and I’m surprised he came here while he is totally physically unfit and it is evident he struggled in the field today,” Logarusic said.
“I know it is rather difficult for a player from abroad to fit in the system immediately since he has to acclimatise among other issues so I will give him the benefit of the doubt and see how it goes.
“The problem is the Kenyan league is very tough and as a club we must be very serious with the kind of players we bring on board. Do we sign a player who will bring positive impact immediately or sign a player to be developed over a long period of time?
“He might regain his fitness in two months and help us since it will be a long season that will need squad rotation and he might therefore come in handy. However this is subject to my judgment of his ability,” Logarusic concluded.
Rodriguez, 25, was previously on the books of Bangladeshi side Sheikh Jamal. He quit the outfit two months ago.
