Leopards face Azam test

AFC Leopards will face Tanzanian side Azam in a friendly match over the weekend.

Azam will be in the country as they continue their mid-season preparations and will thus face Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium, on Saturday.

They will offer good competition and practice for Leopards, having recently won the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.

According to Leopards assistant coach Tom Olaba, it will be a good tester for his side as they prepare for the start of the new season.

“We will play Azam on Saturday. I think that it is important we face the very good sides to see where we are in our preparations. They have shown their pedigree by winning the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar and have some very good players in their side. We expect a good match and are happy that they are in the country to offer us preparations,” he said.

Leopards have a couple of new signings on board and some of them impressed in a friendly match over the past weekend, leaving Olaba happy.

“You expect a new signing to take time to acclimatise but these ones have started well,” he continued.

“They have been professional and hard working, which is all you could ask for. I feel that they will play an important part in the coming season so the sooner they settle the better for the club, but so far I am happy.”

Leopards will also face Division one side Kariobangi Sharks in another friendly match on Saturday 26 January 2013.
