Shikokoti pleased with pre season

Tusker FC captain Joseph Shikokoti is happy with the club’s pre-season tour of Tanzania saying it will profit them greatly.

He also praised the shape the squad has assumed ahead of the coming season.

The brewers have been on a pre-season tour of Tanzania which saw them play numerous friendlies and take part in the annual Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar in which they lost 2-1 in the final to Azam.

“We have had a good time here if you look at it in terms of preparations,” said Shikokoti.

“In Tanzania, we played teams that have been in action all through while we have been on holiday. Their fitness levels were better and so for us to beat them shows good signs. The final was always going to be difficult but we gave our best even though we did not win.

“If you ask me, we have gained a lot from this trip that will help us as the season goes by.”

Tusker will be aiming for a third straight Tusker Premier League title, with the towering defender liking his team’s prospects.

“I think that we have a good chance of winning it again,” said Shikokoti.

“The squad we have now is stronger and harder to beat as compared to last season. If we start well and are consistent, there is no reason why we should not win the title again,” he concluded.

The brewers will also have a Caf Champions League campaign to contend with this year.
