Tusker lose Mapinduzi Cup final

Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC were denied Mapinduzi Cup honours as they lost 2-1 to Tanzanian side Azam FC in the final of the annual tournament on Saturday.

In a well attended match, both sides went on the attack from the word go. However, they both defended with steely determination, leaving affairs goalless at the break.

In the 15th minute of the second half, Tusker’s Jesse Were finally broke the deadlock, registering his fifth goal of the showpiece.

However, 10 minutes later Tusker defender and captain Joseph Shikokoti handled the ball in the box, resulting in a spot kick for Azam. Kenyan Jockins Atudo, who used to represent Tusker, stepped up to take it and he easily sent the ball past goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo to level the scores.

The stalemate stood to the end of regulation time, with 30 minutes of extra time added to the contest.

In the third minute of extra time, Gaudence Mwaikimba converted a cross to push his side in front for the first time in the game.
