Koops looking for opportunities
Even with the festivities going on around him, former AFC Leopards head coach Jan Koops is not relenting on his quest to find a club.
The tactician is hopeful he can secure employment before the new season starts next year.
“I am ready to sign a contract even on Christmas day. This is because I know that after the festivities life has to go on and I hope to have found a team by the time the new season comes around,” said Koops.
The Dutchman, who was in charge as Leopards finished the 2012 season ranked third, had earlier submitted his application for a coaching role at Tusker Premier League side Western Stima.
The job was initially awarded to Leonard Saleh, who was formerly supervising Division One side Agrochemicals. However, a turn of events saw Saleh turn down the offer to join Posta Rangers, who will be competing in the second tier in 2013.
With the position now open, Koops hopes to clinch it because the unavailability of Saleh has narrowed down the competition to former Uganda international Paul Nkata.
“I am optimistic that I will soon get the confirmation from Western Stima,” said Koops.
In 2012 the Leopards, under Koops’s watch, had a great first leg, but faltered in the second leg to lose out on the title.
