Stima resume search for coach

Kakamega-based Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Western Stima FC will have to shop around for a new coach after their preferred choice, Leonard Saleh opted for a move to relegated side Rangers FC.

The former Harambee Stars deputy coach had agreed terms to join Stima from Agrochemicals FC but had second thoughts when the Nairobi side came into the picture.

Reports indicate Rangers, now under a new sponsorship, offered him an irresistible deal.

With the turn of events, Western Stima chairman Laban Jobita just wished the tactician all the best, admitting he had really counted on Saleh’s experience.

He also confirmed that even with Saleh’s deal earlier seeming complete, the club had other plans and will redo the hiring after Christmas.

“It is a bit disappointing; I heard that he has signed for another club. We had counted on him but it is all fine, we even had a contract ready for him to sign and despite this all, I just want to wish him the best in all he does – it is the nature of the game,” he said.

“We had alternative plans just in case this failed and for sure we will have to revisit that when through with the Christmas break.”

Former AFC Leopards coach Jan Koops, Uganda U20 national team coach Paul Nkata and former SoNy Sugar coach Francis Baraza had all shown interest in the job after the club confirmed it won’t be renewing Henry Omino’s contract.
