Dunga dropped from CHAN squad

Kenya coach James Nandwa has dropped SoNy Sugar’s lanky striker Ismail Dunga from the travelling squad for the upcoming CHAN qualifying clash against Burundi.

The team, affectionately called the Harambee Stars, will be skippered by Sofapaka goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng, with James Situma named as vice-captain.

Nandwa says Dunga should not feel too bad about being axed, insisting the young player is likely to get another chance to represent his country in the future.

“We have been forced to drop one player and that is Dunga. We only need 19 players for the match. But it is not over for him, he is still a young player and we will consider him in future assignments,” said Nandwa.

“Duncan Ochieng will captain the team and he will be assisted by James Situma. We have prepared well and I believe the boys will deliver positive results,” added an upbeat Nandwa.

The team will depart for Bujumbura at 1500hrs ahead of Sunday’s first leg tie to be played at the Stade Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium, which sports an artificial turf.

Harambee Stars Squad:

Duncan Ochieng(Cpt), Boniface Oluoch, Abdallah Juma, Edwin Wafula, George Owino, James Situma, Eugine Asike, David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng, Chris Wekesa, Anthony ‘Teddy’ Akumu, Osborne Monday, Francis Kahata, Charles Okwemba, Clifton Miheso, Andrew Tololwa, Kiongera Mungai, Wesley Kemboi, Edwin Lavatsa and Moses Arita.
