Time off for Kenyan Chan squad

Kenya’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) squad, which has been in camp for the past week, have been given this weekend off to recharge their batteries.

Head coach Henri Michel, a former trainer of South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, is preparing the Harambee Stars for the CHAN, with the team up against Burundi’s Swallows in Bunjubura on Sunday 16 December.

This is one of the two squads named by the Frenchman, with other competing in the ongoing CECAFA tournament in neighbouring Uganda.

The past week has also seen changes to the CHAN squad, with Michel calling into camp Gor Mahia defender Solomon Nasio; defender Michael Bodo [formerly with Thika United] and FOYA Goalkeeper of the Year award winner Boniface Oluoch of Tusker FC.

The three players replaced Ulinzi Stars trio Geoffery Kokoyo, James Mulinge and Jacktone Odhiambo, who will be away with the military side for the Africa Military Games to be staged in Ivory Coast.

The Tusker Premier League side will depart Kenya over the weekend for the games that will run for slightly over a fortnight, starting on Saturday 1 December to Tuesday 18 December 2012.

The squad, dubbed Stars ‘A’ team, is expected back in camp on Monday after two days of rest to continue with their preparations.
