Rangers agree Posta deal

Rangers FC, recently relegated from the Kenyan Premier League, have been in talks over the past few months with the Kenya Postal Corporation over a possible sponsorship deal.

And the Nairobi-based club’s chairman Yobesh Ongeri has confirmed the two parties have reached an agreement.

Ongeri did not elaborate on the details of the contract, as he said the company needed some time first to assess the club’s finances before finalising the arrangement.

“After months of negotiations, I can confirm that a deal has been reached between Rangers FC and the Postal Corporation of Kenya. The corporation, however, will not be making the financial commitment as yet. They requested to assess a number of issues first but what we are assured of is a sponsorship,” he said.

“As the chairman I should say I am happy with this because it will help ease the financial burden at the club while we play in Division One and it also sets a challenge to the players that they have only one season to play down there. The team should be back in the premier league in 2014.”

The agreement will see the body which used to sponsor Rangers up to the start of the 2011 season return for a second stint.

With the deal sealed, Ongeri called on all current and former Rangers FC players employed at the corporation to attend a meeting on Tuesday at 2pm at the Railways Sports Club.
