Gor battle Leopards in cup semis

Two giants of Kenyan football Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, face off on Saturday in the first semifinal of the 2012 President’s Cup.

The showdown will present the third time the teams lock horns this year. Gor Mahia has the edge over AFC Leopards, having picked up four points from their previous two meetings in the recently concluded Kenyan Premier League season.

Recent form also points favourably to Gor Mahia. Going into the game they have managed a run of 19 matches unbeaten in the league, while they also already have a trophy in their cabinet – the Top 8 Cup won earlier in the season.

The allure of continental football could be a key driving force in the game since the winner of this tournament will qualify to compete in next year’s Confederations Cup tournament.

Probable line ups:

AFC Leopards: Patrick Matasi, Edwin Wafula, Abbas Kiwalabye, Nahimana Jonas, Erick Masika, Martin Imbalambla, Bernard Mang’oli, Charles Okwemba, Paul Were, Victor Ochieng’, Mike Barasa.

Subs: Barnabas Tiema, Floribert Tambwe,Augustine Etemesi, David Seda, Rajab, Laurent Tumba, Allan Wanga.

Subs: Ivoo Mapunda, David Owino, Kevin Omondi, George Midenyo,Moses Otieno, Edwin Lavatsa and Yusuf Juma.
