All set for President's Cup semis

Preparations for the eagerly awaited FKF President’s Cup semi-final matches this weekend have hit top gear with the Football Kenya Federation determined to create a positive advertisement for Kenyan football.

On Saturday, AFC Leopards will lock horns with their perennial rivals Gor Mahia before Sofapaka face Tusker the following day. Both games will be played at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Organisers confirmed the venue on Wednesday after a security meeting, which was chaired by FKF president Sam Nyamweya and attended by Sports Stadia Management Board CEO Gabriel Komora and officials from the four clubs in question.

“We have settled on having the derby on Saturday from 3pm at Kasarani as previously planned, but the other semi-final pitting league champions Tusker and Sofapaka has been moved from City Stadium to Kasarani on Sunday. Both matches will be aired live by SuperSport,” said Nyamweya.

“Security plans for both matches are complete and I would like to say categorically that there will be a very high level of security during the derby, one that has never been seen before and people intending to cause trouble around that premises on that day will be in for serious trouble, because we want fans to enjoy the match and go back home safely.”

Nyamweya also revealed 35, 000 tickets will be made available, starting on Friday morning.

“Fans should only purchase tickets at designated areas to avoid being sold fake tickets. The tickets will be sold by Bob Morgan at the Kenya Cinema, Kencom and inside Kasarani on Friday and on Saturday there will be a ticket van outside the stadium,” explained Nyamweya.
