Nominees named for TPL awards



The Kenyan Premier League has released a list of nominees for the season ending gala night to be held on 21 November at Safari Park Hotel.

The nominees selected by the sixteen Tusker Premier League coaches were grouped in the following categories – Goal keeper of the Year 2012, Defender of the Year 2012, Midfielder of the Year 2012, Player of the Year 2012 and Coach of the Year 2012.

TPL runners up Gor Mahia has been highly represented in the nominees with five players and their coach Zdravko Logarusic nominated for the awards.

The duo of Dan Sserenkuma and Rama Salim have been selected for player of the year award as well as John Keo (Oserian), Paul Kiongera (KCB) and Mike Baraza (AFC Leopards).

Ugandan import and Gor defender Ivan Anguyo will battle it out with Sofapaka’s Eugene Asike, Western Stima’s Jackson Saleh, John Shikokoti and Jockins Atudo both of Tusker FC, and AFC Leopards’ Jonas Nahimana.

In the goalkeepers’ category, Gor’s skipper Jerim Onyango will contest for the award with 2011 winner Boniface Oluoch of Tusker, Martin Musalia (Mathare United), Duncan Ochieng (Sofapaka) and Ben Robert Mandela (Western Stima).

The midfielder award will be battled for by Gor midfielder Anthony Akumu, AFC Leopards’ Bernard Mang’oli, Thika United’s Francis Kahata, Tusker FC’s Peter Opiyo and Paul Kiongera of KCB.

Tusker coach Robert Matano will challenge Zdravko Logarusic (Gor Mahia), Jan Koops (AFC Leopards), John Kamau (Thika United) and Stanley Okumbi (Mathare United) in the coach category.
