Tusker players kept believing
Tusker FC retained the Tusker Premier League (TPL) title on Saturday 10 November courtesy of the 3-0 win over Nairobi City Stars in the 30th round of league matches at Hope Centre.
The team overtook Gor Mahia to seal the feat and speaking after the game, the Brewers’ captain Joseph Shikokoti said the team never lost hope of retaining the title, even when odds seemed to favour Gor Mahia.
He promised that after the celebration, the team will focus on another season in the CAF Champions League next year with the view of doing much better than this year.
“Even during the lowest points we had in the title run in, we knew we had all it takes to win the league and went on with the preparations for the final rounds like we always did. We did not lose hope and kept pushing on with our eye on the ultimate prize. I am very happy that we have finally retained the title,” Shikokoti said.
“We went into the game prepared for any of the three results in football; loss, win or draw and had decided to play the game just like all the other matches we have played this season, we will celebrate as we look forward to the coming season and the future,” he added.
Tusker finished with 60 points, one better than Gor Mahia who drew 1-1 with Thika United. Third-placed AFC Leopards, who were also in contention, lost 1-0 to Chemelil Sugar to blow their title chances.
