Were boost for Mathare
Ahead of their Saturday 27 October 2012 Tusker Premier League encounter with KCB, Mathare United have been boosted by the return from injury of striker Jesse Were.
Were suffered a knee knock in Mathare’s friendly match against Korogocho Youth on Sunday and as a result missed his team’s 1-0 win over second bottom side Oserian on 20 October – but he is now fully-healed and recently resumed training.
Confirming the news, Mathare head coach Stanley Okumbi has termed Were’s return as a big boost for the side.
“He resumed training on Wednesday 24 October and has been progressing well. He has been in fine form this season and I know he will make an impact against KCB,” Okumbi said.
Were, who is the team’s top scorer this season after bagging eight goals so far, also expressed his joy – added that he was optimistic he would start against the bankers.
“I feel no pain now and my body has generally responded well in training. I feel fit to play against KCB but then the coach will decide who to field but it is my hope to start and hopefully score and help my team win,” Were said.
Mathare United is ninth on the 16-team table with 35 points while KCB is eleventh with 33 points, both having played 27 games.
