Odhiambo boost for Thika
Thika United has received a major boost ahead of their remaining league matches with return from injury of Kenyan international defender Dennis Odhiambo.
Odhiambo has suffered from a nagging knee injury that has kept seen him come on and off the pitch since May, but has now resumed training.
Confirming the news, Thika United head coach John Kamau expressed his joy at Odhiambo’s return, terming it as a blessing.
“I’m very happy that Dennis has started training. He is one of the most experienced players I have in my squad and his return at this crucial stage is a blessing to the team,” Kamau said.
Thika will host giant-killers Western Stima on Sunday 21 October at their Thika Municipal Stadium and Kamau has expressed his uncertainty over Odhiambo’s availability for the match.
“He just returned and is yet to train fully with the team as he only joins us during light training. He will undergo fitness tests on Saturday and if he is deemed fit to play then I will select him in the squad to play Western Stima,” Kamau added.
Odhiambo also expressed his joy at resuming training, saying that he hopes to feature in the team’s remaining matches.
“I feel no pain in the knee now but I’m still cautious, hence I only do light training. My body is reacting well and I hope to get into full training soon and hopefully play in the remaining matches,” he said.
Thika United is fifth in the league standings with 42 points having played 26 matches and will play Western Stima, Ulinzi Stars, Chemelil Sugar and Gor Mahia in its last matches.
