Oburu to skipper Sony
Kenyan Premier League side Sony Sugar FC has confirmed the appointment of Wilson Oburu as their new captain.
The former Sofapaka FC custodian, who joined the Millers in the January transfer window, replaced Sylvester Wanyama.
Wanyama has captained the 12th-placed side for the past six years and according to team manager Nehemiah Licha it is time to change the guard.
“Change is inevitable and since Wanyama has led this team for a long period, we decided to give the leadership to another player with different qualities,” said Licha.
“Oburu has brilliant communication skills, he also has the ability to solve the players’ issues without involving the management. We need somebody who can command and stamp authority in the playing unit. With this change we hope all our problems in the playing unit are over.”
The former Kenyan international warmly welcomed the new role saying that he is ready for the task.
“I know it is challenging but I am devoted to do it with my whole heart. With the support of the management and technical bench I am confident we will achieve our goals,” said an elated Oburu.
