Kagame Cup dates announced



THE Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) will stage the 2012 Kagame Club cup Competition in Tanzania from July 14th-28th.

Preparations for the championship began in earnest in Dar re salaam on Thursday when CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye met several stakeholders and partners to lay the ground in what is expected to be a thrilling competition.

On Friday meeting, CECAFA Chairman Leodegar Tenga chaired a joint meeting of the Council and Tanzania Football Federation(TFF) at the Federation Headquarters where both parties signed a memorandum to stage the event next month.

"I want to thank the sponsors of the event and also the patron President Paul Kagame for their efforts to improve club football in the region.Our programmes has been working perfectly well and we are indeed delighted that all modalities are in place "Mr.Nicholas Musonye told SuperSport.com

On his part the CECAFA chairman Leodegar Tenga echoed the secretary general sentiments telling SuperSport.com "we are indeed delighted that the dates are set for the annual Cecafa and we want to thank the sponsors and the Rwanda President Kagame for the continued support over the years in making this tournament a success".

President Paul Kagame has been sponsoring the annual club championship since 1999.

He has already committed USD 60,000 prize money for the 2012 competition. Musonye also urged other sponsors and partners to come on board and make the 2012 competition a success.

Supersport has already partnered with CECAFA to show the matches Live. The matches will be staged at the Dar National Stadium which hosted both the Club cup cup and Challenge cup last year.

Several clubs across the continent have shown interest in participating in this year's event, They include Vita Club of Congo and several others from COSAFA region. Musonye said he will liaise with TFF, and sponsors to look at the possibility of inviting foreign clubs all depending on the resources that will be available.
