South Sudan has become the 13th member of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa).
Consequently, Africa’s newest state will be eligible to compete in all regional competitions sanctioned by Cecafa.
South Sudan were recently declared a republic following a peaceful referendum that separated them from Sudan.
"We are happy to officially welcome South Sudan to the Cecafa family and now they are eligible to participate in all organised Cecafa competition henceforth."
"As Cecafa we are very happy to have another member to join our expanding family and we know this will be an added advantage and will bring more competition in regional tournaments organised by us," Secretary General Nicholas Musonye told SuperSport.com.
South Sudan will now participate in the under 17 tourney, Kagame Cup and the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup which are held annually.
