Don't write Gor Mahia off - Bwana

Gor Mahia secretary George Bwana has strongly insisted his club will be a major force in the Kenya Premier League(KPL) season and called his critics not to write his team off.

He said losing to KPL Champions Tusker in the DStv Super Cup grand finale was just a wake up call for his players not to underrate any side. Gor lost 3-1 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 regulation time stalemate.

He said the signing of former Nairobi City Stars defender Donald Mosoti during the last day of the transfer period was a good omen for the club. "We caught many by surprise when we fielded Mosoti since we never made his transfer public. He will be our solution in defence and will probably cover effectively the position left by Erick Masika, who joined AFC Leopards, “ said Bwana.

The club secretary expressed fear about the injury of Musa Mohamed and Baldwin Ngwa, who could miss this weekend's opening KPL tie against Thika United.

The duo were injured during their weekend DStv clash against Tusker FC.They were replaced by Anthony Okumu and Kevin Ochieng respectively.

“I cannot comment much on the two key players' injuries but I hope the team doctor will be in a better position to shed more light. Personally, I can say we might miss their services next weekend, especially Mohammed who limped off with pain. The team broke off after the match and will resume training on Tuesday morning at the Nairobi City Stadium.

“We want to make a mark this season. We are dead set to clinch nothing but the League title. I must confess in our recent match against Tusker, we were much better. We created more chances than our opponents. We were just unlucky not to convert our chances. We lost as a team and cannot blame any particular department. In penalty shoot-outs even if you look at a global perspective, the best team ends up losing," said Bwana.
