SuperSport shells out kshs 1.2 million for Super Cup



South African pay TV channel Supersport have forked out kshs 1.2 million for Sundays Super Cup clash between Tusker and Gor Mahia at Nyayo stadium.The winner will pocket kshs 750,000 with the runner up collecting kshs 500,000.The SuperSport Dstv cup will be played on Sunday at the Nyayo stadium from 3pm and will be broadcast live on SuperSport 9.

Supersport CEO Gary Rathborne said the league has grown in leaps and bounds in the last four years and was expecting a competitive season starting with the Super cup” We have had four different winners of the league since our sponsorship started and we expect this year to be no different the standards have gone up and we are expecting an exciting season” added Rathborne.

Gor Mahia captain Jerim Onyango was bullish about the team's prospects for the clash on Sunday “ We are ready for the match we have signed a couple of players and the mood in the team is very high and we are prepared to battle with Tusker. Tusker will be without skipper Jospeh Shikokoti who has gone for trails with a club in Armenia.

Coach Sammy Omollo disclosed that the club could face a huge dent should Shikokoti and striker Itubu Imbem who is headed for Yemen for trials succeed in their plans.

Gor are preparing for the clash in Naivasha away from the prying eyes of heir fans and Onyango said the team will be competing for all the four trophies on offer this season “ We want to win all the trophies starting with the Super Cup, Top eight , Kenya Premier league title and the CAF cup it can be done its possible and with he talent at our disposal it can be done” added the Gor skipper.

Tusker's Samuel Odhiambo said the side wanted to carry the momentum of last season by winning the first silverware on offer “ The boys are hungry to win and it will give us a big boost if we can win her trophy in readiness for our continental matches” added Odhiambo

Gor Mahia secretary George Bwana said he was expecting a tough clash against the brewers” Tusker are a difficult side to beat but the boys are ready the morale is high and we can win the match” he added.
