FKF requests investigation, offers condolences to Egypt

Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) have called upon Egyptian authorities, Confederation of African football (CAF) and the World Governing soccer body(Fifa) to launch a thorough investigation to find out the cause of the Egyptian soccer tragedy.

While sending condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased, FKF Chairman Sam Nyamweya said a lasting solution must be sought to find a lasting solution to similar tragedies not just in Egypt or Africa, but all over the world.

“Football authorities all over the world must not allow external forces to wreck the sport. The entire Kenyan football fraternity, feel very sad by the tragedy that claimed over 70 football fans in Egypt on Wednesday.

It is indeed a blot on the global football and very sad day indeed for Africa and Egypt. What was expected to be a spectacular match between Al Ahli of Cairo and Al-Masry of Port Said turned out to be a catastrophe of such unimaginable magnitude.” said Nyamweya.

He went on “Football is a source of entertainment, a rich industry, and a reliable employer. Football is a symbol of unity and hope to many a nation, as we have seen in recent times, in nations where there was no hope, football Was used to bring hope and unify citizens,”

He said Violence in football and hooliganism is unacceptable in our stadia. “This Message, he went on, must go out very clearly.Fan‘s should accept results irrespective of the consequences. Resorting to violence makes competition and sportsmanship lose its meaning.”

“Football authorities all over the world must not allow external forces to Infiltrate and manipulate the beautiful game for their own selfish designs. On behalf of the Kenyan football fraternity, I send our heartfelt condolences to our counterparts in Egypt on this very sad occasion” he said.
