Ferroviario de Maputo - a very worthy opponent

Kenya's Gor Mahia face an herculean task in their CAF Confederation cup against a stubborn Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique that has never lost a continental match at their home ground in Maputo since 2006.

Both team's clash in the first leg slated away in Maputo on February 18th with the return tie scheduled two weeks later in Nairobi.

A brief statistics from Ferroviaro library gives a clear warning that Kenya's Gor Mahia must roll up their sleeves and prepare for a tricky showdown.

In 2006,the Maputo glamour side played to 0-0 draw away to La Passe of Seychelles before eliminating them 2-0 at home in Maputo. Ferroviario went ahead to hold Ghanian giants Asante Kotoko 0-0 at home before crashing out of the tournament after a 2-1 loss in Accra.

In 2009, Ferroviario de Maputo beat KCC of Uganda 2-1 at home though did not make it to the second round after succumbing to 2-0 loss in the return leg in Kampala.

Their 2010 campaign of the same league was much better though just like in 2006, they only managed a second round attempt. They eliminated Coin Nord Mitsamiouli of Comoros in the 1st round after a thorough beating of 5-3 away in Comoros and a 4-1 thrashing at home.

In the second round, the unbeaten home record was kept alive with a comfortable win of 2-0 over Supersports of South Africa though not enough because they had lost 3-0 in South Africa.

Ferroviario de Maputo is also known to be scoring their goals in the second half of almost all their matches played both home and away.

Will Gor Mahia this time break the long time jinx ??
