The World football governing body FIFA has given $100,000 to the Independent Electoral Board(IEB) to meet part of the budget for the forthcoming Football Kenya elections.
The elections have a budget of $200,000 with the deficit set to be met by the Kenyan government through the Ministry of Sports.
At the same time IEB will meet with the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) on Tuesday to sign up a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will set the ball rolling for the much awaited elections.
IEB chief Executive officer Peter Ogonji confirmed to SuperSport.com that they had received the sum.
“We are happy that our plans are going on as scheduled and I can confirm to you that Fifa has already made their donation of $100,000 and we are only awaiting for the government donation because they were to share the budget on a 50/50 basis.”
“We will meet IIEC and sign a MOU which will govern the requirements for the elections and possibly set a date but I can assure all stakeholders that everything is in motion and the elections are set to be conducted this month,” he added.
IEB and IIEC were originally set to meet last week on Friday but the meeting did not take place.
