Bandari come out tops in Coastal derby
Abdulwahab Musa’s brace inspired Bandari to a hard fought 3-2 win over Congo United in an entertaining Coastal derby played at Mbaraki Grounds on Saturday.
Musa who took his goals tally to seven this season broke the deadlock in the 8th minute capitalising from a defensive lapse to beat keeper Evans Omondi from close range.
He was on the mark again in the 28th minute benefitting from another sublime pass to put Bandari further ahead.
Congo United rallied back and they pulled one back through new signing Kevin ‘Keegan’ Ngugi who latched onto a loose ball five minutes before the break.
Bandari however reclaimed their two goal lead through Eric Ochieng who netted his first goal for the club. Congo again rescued the arrears through Allan Omondi but it would not be enough for the club which has now lost its last five matches.
The win lifted Bandari off the relegation spots and into 14th with 17 points whoile Congo remain rooted to the bottom of the table with 14.
An elated Bandari coach Rishadi Shedu told SuperSport.com, “I am happy with the win as we have been facing a difficult period but I believe our resurgence has now begun.”
On his part Congo’s new coach Abdalla Juma said that luck was not on their side, “I am happy with the way my players fought back and I believe we were just unlucky but I have seen the mistakes and we will rectify.”
