Ulinzi to leave for Brazil on Tuesday

Kenyan Premier League champions Ulinzi Stars leave for Brazil on Tuesday next week ahead of the World Military Games.

The squad of 18 players will depart at 3am aboard a solidarity flight courtesy of the Brazilian military.

At the same time, Coach Benjamin Nyangweso says that George Otieno who injured himself while celebrating his equaliser against El Mereikh in the Cecafa Kagame Cup is recovering well and will be fit for the trip.

“The injury was not as bad as we initially feared and the team doctor has been working on it and he will make the trip. Furthermore we cannot make changes to the team since we have already acquired visas for the travelling squad.”

Ulinzi are pooled together with Ecuador, France and Egypt in a tough pool but Nyangweso remains confident they will do well.

“We are in good shape having played well in Cecafa and winning the TOP 8 trophy before that. We will give it our best shot and represent Kenya in the best way possible.”

The 2011 Military World Games will take place in from 16-24 July. They will be the largest military sports event ever held in Brazil, with approximately 4,900 athletes from over 100 countries competing in 24 sports.
