AFC Leopards sack nine players
Congolese-born trio of Demonde Selenga, Itubu Imbem and Hugo Nzoka are among nine players sacked by AFC Leopards because of gross misconduct.
Other players who have been shown the door include Gedion Israel, Laban Tshimonjero, Douglas Okumu, Edgar Waudo Milton Milimo and Evans Wandera.
Team manager Bernard Onyango told SuperSport.com that the players had shown little commitment to the club.
“Their performances were wanting. They never played with purpose and you could see from their performances that they had a hidden agenda and had no commitment in the club.”
Onyango added that the club was plotting to end its current poor run of results by maintaining a dedicated side, “We have 30 players in our stable. Now that we have dropped ten, we still have 20 who can steer the team to finish the first leg.”
He said they will go full throttle during the transfer window by signing ten experienced players and disclosed that they have finalized talks with several players from Rangers FC, Western Stima and cash strapped Nairobi City Stars but declined to name them.
“We are almost through with our targets and they have agreed with our terms. Our club is among the top three paying clubs in terms of salaries and allowances and one wonders why these players were sabotaging the team. We are aware there are outside forces led by the former office trying to destabilize the team but they will not succeed,” averred Onyango.
“We must win our next few matches to gain confidence. We have gone far too long without winning. We have quality players, our players are fit and they are fully psyched but our recent dismal performance is disturbing,” said Onyango.
