Battle of wits expected in week 7
This weekend was supposed to be a break in the KPL but matches have been brought forward with eight games scheduled across the country in week seven with three matches to be broadcast live on SuperSport from Karuturi stadium and Thika Municipal stadium with top teams seeking to dethrone Tusker from the top position that they have held for the past six weeks.
Karuturi Sports Vs Chemelil Sugar (Karuturi live on SuperSport 9)
Karuturi suffered a major upset losing 3-0 to Mathare United as coach James Nandwa finds himself under pressure as they moved down to twelfth on the log and need a win to reassure their fans. On the other hand Chemelil forced a draw against Ulinzi Stars and will be banking on this result to get a first win in several weeks. Chemelil are in an awkward fourteenth in the league with merely five points.
Ulinzi Stars Vs Sofapaka (Karuturi live on SuperSport 9)
Ulinzi are amongst the midtable teams with eight points and appear to have regained their footing under coach Benjamin Nyangweso. It will be a tough battle with Ulinzi missing dependable defender Geoffrey Kokoyo who was injured in Chemelil last weekend. Sofapaka on the other hand are running smoothly under coach Francis Kimanzi putting the 2-0 loss to Rangers behind them by knocking out Sony Sugar 2-1 in the KPLTop 8. Bob Mugalia and John Baraza might be the difference in the game.
KCB Vs Congo United(City Stadium)
KCB who have been in good form rising upto third on the log go into their match with bottom of the table Congo United as favourites and are expected to collect all three points at home. Congo may be considered underdogs but with coach Gideon Ochieng fighting a battle to maintain grip in the team after being given an ultimatum to win the next two matches or he gets the sack, they might pull off a surprise.
Western Stima Vs Mathare United (Bukhungu)
Western Stima have been the big surprise team this season winning matches both at home and away to move to second position on the log just two shy off league leaders Tusker. The home side will thus be looking to maintain their form under veteran coach Henry Omino who has masterminded wins over bigger teams with his pedigree of players. On the other hand Mathare United last weekend bounced back from consecutive losses to get a deserved win against Karuturi but will they maintain the same wining formula this weekend?
City Stars Vs AFC Leopards(Nyayo)
City Stars might have achieved an unprecedented results beating mighty Kogalo pushing them from the bottom of the table where they have been rooted for the four weeks but facing a wounded Leopards side coming from two straight losses will be a huge task indeed as Matano will want to get back to winning ways. City Stars will also be looking for that continuity against a Leopards side who are ninth with nine points.
Rangers Vs Sony Sugar(City)
Rangers have had a good start to the season and last weekend continued their mastery of Sofapaka beating them last weekend to rise upto to fourth on the log. They are up against a Sony side that lost to Tusker and also lost to Sofapaka in the Top 8 midweek game and coach Francis Baraza will have to look for a better formula to overcome a strong Rangers side who seem to have put their financial problems behind them.
Thika United Vs Gor Mahia(Thika live on SuperSport 9)
Coming off an emphatic 3-0 win over Bandari in midweek, Thika will be fired up for this clash against Gor Mahia who also have ten points. It will be a cracker as Kogalo have just landed sponsorship from Tuzo which is a sister company to Brookeside who are Thika United's sponsors. It will be a battle that both coach Zedekiah Otieno and Juma Abdallah will hope to prevail. Gor want to quickly forget the 1-0 loss to bottom of the table City Stars and while Thika want to keep their momentum and with both sides boasting of talented youngsters who can change a game, it should be an entertaining match.
Bandari Vs Tusker (Mombasa)
Bandari suffered a beating at the hands of Thika United after they had just started to show signs of recovery by winning two matches in a row. They face a charged Tusker who are the current lead leaders in a David vs Goliath affair. Only willpower and change of tactics will stop the best striking partnership so far comprising of George Midenyo and Dennis Mukaisi who have eight goals between them and a midfield that can also score goals at will.
