Sydney FC offer Italy’s Del Piero deal

Australian club Sydney FC said on Thursday they have held talks with former Juventus and Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero and made him an offer to join, with a decision expected by the weekend.

Del Piero, 37, spent 19 years with Juventus but became a free agent in May and Sydney FC are keen to entice him Down Under to the domestic A-League.

"Overnight we had two video conferences lasting about two hours discussing the possibility of bringing Alessandro Del Piero to Sydney FC," said the club's chief executive Tony Pignata.

"We spoke about football, as well as the Sydney lifestyle and the ability for him to leave a lasting legacy in the game.

"We presented him with what we think is a good package and we should get an answer within 48 hours."

Del Piero has been linked to clubs in the Middle East and the United States, among others, but is yet to commit.
