Sumaila lured by Champions League

Rashid Sumaila says the prospect of African Champions League football was key is his decision to ignore a long list of suitors as he chose Kotoko as his destination for next season. The financial details of the agreement are yet to be disclosed for the 19-year old's move.

Speaking to SuperSport.com Rashid Sumaila outlined the main reason of his choice. "A potential Champions League campaign lured me to accept Kotoko's offer. It is every local player’s dream to be in the African Champions League."

Following the sale of Awal Mohammed to Maritzburg United in South Africa, the reds had been on a hunt for backup in defence. Sumaila was solid for Dwarfs in the past seasons, culminating in his choice as Defender of the Year two years ago.

He further stated that he will be having his medicals with Kotoko on Wednesday.
