Ghana PL preview: Arsenals face drop
Berekum Arsenals are flirting dangerously with relegation following a string of poor results - the latest being a 2-0 loss to Mighty Jets on Saturday.
The last time Arsenals won was nine games ago, and they currently lie one place from the bottom. Mighty Jets, who have been an improved side in their efficiency recently, went into the lead on 31 minutes when winger Tamimu Muntari slotted home a penalty.
Arsenals' fortunes plunged further below the hopeful mark when Abubakar Sidi pounced on an error and scored. It was Sidi's fourth goal of the season.
Sunday's games
Asante Kotoko are now top of the table with a two-point lead and their latest conquest sees them face Medeama at home. Kotoko won quite well in Accra in their last game against Liberty, playing with a calm that belied their usually frenzied play for much of this season when they go away from home.
Hearts of Oak have been guilty of dropping points in places they are usually expected to win. They have a home game this Sunday with Heart of Lions, who have fared reasonably well on the road. Gilbert Fiamenyo is in Ukraine for medicals with Oleksandria and it remains to be seen how his absence will affect Lions. Hearts need a win in this one if they are to mount any serious threat to Kotoko.
After five games of not winning, champions Berekum Chelsea won very well against Arsenals in midweek, but another Brong Ahafo side need to be conquered if Van der Pluym's men can stay in the title race. Aduana have the league's best defence and against Chelsea, whose scoring is only bettered by Kotoko, it will fascinating hook up of styles.
In Wa, northern Ghana, All Stars will play one of the live TV games of the week. Liberty Professionals are their visitors, while in Cape Coast Tema Youth travel to a recently-misfiring Dwarfs. the Gyemfi's Park is home to New Edubiase, who play an equally rugged AshGold.
Wassaman tie up the weekend's games with Bechem United in Sekondi.
