Fuerth fire coach Bueskens

Bundesliga strugglers Greuther Fuerth on Wednesday fired coach Mike Bueskens, according to several reports in the German media, with the team currently sitting 14 points from safety.

"We were informed by the club that Mike Bueskens was relieved of his duties", Fuerth's captain Mergim Mavraj told sports website Spox.com.

The 44-year-old took charge of Fuerth in 2009 and steered them to promotion last season when they reached the Bundesliga for the first time in their history.

But they have won just twice in 22 games in the top flight, and sit bottom of the table with just 12 points to their name.

Their 1-0 defeat at Fortuna Duesseldorf on Saturday was the final straw for the board.

"A coach's dismissal is always a sad and difficult situation, especially when you have celebrated success together. We have to get our heads around this," centre-back Thomas Kleine told magazine Kicker.

Bueskens is the fourth coach to lose his job in the Bundesliga this season after Wolfsburg sacked Felix Magath in October, then, in December, Hoffenheim relieved Markus Babbel of his duties and Schalke 04 fired Huub Stevens.
