Auxerre hit with stadium fan ban
Relegated French side Auxerre were hit with a four-match stadium ban on Thursday, with two suspended, after unruly fans caused a match last season to be halted three times.
The action was taken by French league officials to punish Auxerre whose supporters threw pieces of fruit, toilet paper, tennis balls and a smoke bomb onto the pitch during the game with champions Montpellier at the Stade de l'Abbe Deschamps on May 20.
The three stoppages caused a 41-minute delay in total to a game which was won 2-1 by Montpellier.
Top-flight Ajaccio were docked three points with one suspended after their fans threw fireworks and attacked a linesman during and after the May 13 game with Lyon.
