More injury woes for Nigeria

Nigeria midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, could miss out of featuring in the 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup.

The SS Lazio midfield player was forced off injured in Nigeria's 1-1 draw against Namibia in a 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier in Windhoek on Wednesday.

Onazi had to be replaced with Academica de Coimbra midfielder, John Ogu in the 71st minute of the game when he could no longer continue after suffering a knock.

An official of the Nigerian men's national team disclosed that the condition of the 20-year-old does not look good as the African champions fly out to Brazil for the Festival of Champions on Thursday.

"One of our top players, Ogenyi Onazi left the game injured and it looks serious. So the possibility is high that he may not be part of the Fifa Confederations Cup in Brazil," Super Eagles' coordinator, Emmanuel Attah told Brila FM.

But the status of the player's injury was not mention as he is expected to undergo further checks from the Super Eagles' doctor on Thursday before a final pronouncement is made.

The African champions, who lead Group F of the World Cup qualifications, will travel out to Sao Paulo in Brazil for the Confederations Cup en route South Africa this Thursday.

Nigeria are in Group B of the Confederations Cup alongside world champions, Spain, Uruguay and Tahiti. The tournament kicks off on June 15.
