Altidore scores twice against Ajax

USA international Jozy Altidore scored two goals in three minutes for AZ Alkmaar in a 2-2 draw at Ajax in their Dutch league opener on Sunday.

Defender Gregory van der Wiel gave Ajax a first-half lead but Altdore leveled in the 48th minute, going past Van der Wiel and fellow defender Toby Alderweireld before beating goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer. Altidore then found the roof of the net in the 50th after trading passes with Maarten Martens.

Ajax missed several chances before Kolbeinn Sigthorsson equalized with a bicycle kick in the 83rd.

In other matches, defending champion FC Twente beat FC Groningen 4-1, with Nacer Chadli and Dusan Tadic both scoring twice for Steve McClaren's team, while Feyenoord won 1-0 at FC Utrecht.

PSV Eindhoven lost 3-2 at RKC Waalwijk on Saturday.
