Podium finish for Zanzibar Heroes



Zanzibar Heroes came from a goal down to beat Kilimanjaro Stars 6-5 on penalties in an entertaining third place play off fixture staged at Namboole Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Mwinyi Kazimoto and Abdalla Othman Alliy forced the match to go into penalties that decided who between the two teams finished third and pocketed $10,000.

Kazimoto opened the scoring in the 19th minute after he pounced on a cross from John Bocco.

With tempers flaring before the half hour, it was Jaku Juma Jaku that went down as a result of a reckless challenge.

Nadir Cannavaro will have himself to blame as he shoot wide with nine minutes to break as he ensured their opponents enjoyed the lead as they headed into the cloakroom.

Tanzania was dealt a huge blow when John Bocco limped off from the match due to injury in the 75th minute to pave way for Salum Abubakar.

However, their lead was cut short 11 minutes later when Juma Kaseja punched the ball away only for Abdalla Othman Alliy to hit the back of the net.

In the shootout, Khamis Mcha Khamis, Samih Nuhu, Twaha Mohammed, Abdalla Othman Alli, Nadir ‘Canavarro’Haroub and Sabri Makame converted to give Zanzibar the third place.
